I had a lot of trouble with shin splints at first. It hurt almost too much to use the stairs at its worst. What worked for me was stretches and rest. And lots of Motrin! Make sure you have a good pair of shoes for your gait, too: if you must, go to a running shop and have your gait analyzed. Run on ...

Well done! :D Yes, those last five minutes are the longest, most never-ending minutes EVER. Funny how the five minute warm up goes by in a flash, yet those final five of the run just drag.
