Re: Shinsplints and Knee Pain
I was out for two weeks after I ran through knee pain on the second week of the program. It was rough. My left knee really took a hit, but the down time caused me to do a lot of research into what I might have been doing wrong. Like Peter pointed out above, regarding heel striking, I found many arti...

Re: Drinking when running
Add me to the sip and spit camp also. I hydrate (or try to) throughout the day before/off days, and then hydrate well up to about an hour before the run, then not so much 15 minutes before the run. Throughout the run (the walk/run sequences), I mostly sip in a mouthful of water, slosh it around, and...

Re: Week 1 second run....another newbie.
Screech, Just keep going. I have found the second day of each week easiest. Third days sometimes harder than second day. First days are tough. But, be sure if you haven't run much ( I had not), to work on form and as everyone says, listen to your body. I hit week 2...second day....and tried to run t...

Re: Runners knee
Sounds exactly like what happened to me last week as I was halfway through week two. That was Thursday. Knee is still seriously messed up, no improvement. RICE recommendations are good/true, but so far for me only provides temporary pain relief. Considering medical visit myself. Keep us posted on yo...

Will work for knees?!
Just finished W2D2. Had some soreness in the knees before first run this week, pushed through alright. In fact, week 2 has gone well thus far....except, like a number of you (per other posts), today my knees fought a battle. It was odd to not have the cardio beat down that I had first week, but have...

Re: Week 1 second run....another newbie.
Oh and today's run was a welcoming 102 degrees F outside with our typical high humidity. Being the genius that I am, I spent half the run focusing NOT on pace, breathing, form, etc....but on trying to determine why on earth today's run felt like slogging through a jar of molasses. Admittedly, the co...

Re: Week 1 second run....another newbie.
Ohhhh the KNEEEEEES. Right. Hey, somebody could have told me that being cool and running on sidewalks/concrete is not cool (and I don't mean "cool" as in temperature). I found this new route to run where I alternate between sidewalks (mostly unused by the public, not well kept) and asphalt...

Re: Heat Wave
Whewwww, the heat. We always enjoy nice 90-100% humidity and temps from 95-100+ F throughout the summers here. That almost had my mind shutdown on trying to run today. Staying hydrated throughout the day, all day, surely does help at run time...I'm normally not a heavy drinker (water...not alcohol) ...
