My first 5K
I ran my first 5K yesterday and had a blast...so much so that I have already signed up for another in October. Thank you Get Running!

Re: Just finishing week 4
I do the same thing starknut does..I break my running mentally into short intervals...that's why I love the prompts. Each prompt telling me "halfway through" or "5 minutes remaining" or whatever the prompt is brings a smile to my face. It's hard to explain but I forget about the ...

Re: Just finishing week 4
Ha its been hot and rainy in the US too. Many times I have asked myself why I chose summer to train for a 5K. :-) Don't let the number 20 get in your head. I think everyone who does the program dreads that run, yet most do it the first time and those who don't do it eventually. Just take your time.....

Re: Just finishing week 4
That first 20 min run seems so daunting, doesn't it? I didn't think I could do it either...I had to look at the app twice to make sure it wasn't a mistake...it seemed like such a sudden, big jump! I just went out and told myself I would try my best, and if I failed, I would do it again. To my surpri...

Re: 5K 2 days in a row!
Simon, you will get there. Once you know you can run for 30 min you can gradually pick up the pace and you will be there before you know it. Plummy, I was averaging around 2.8 in a 30 min run. I just decided to push myself to see if I could do the full 5K because it didn't seem like too big of a lea...

5K 2 days in a row!
Yesterday I ran 5K for the first time. Yay! Today should have been a rest day for me, but it was beautiful out and I felt like running so I ran 5K again. At 32 min and some change I am not setting any speed records but I am so excited that I can cover the distance! My race isn't until Sept 9 so I ha...

Re: Week 6 Run 3
I find the first 10 min to be the hardest as well. I seem to settle into a good pace and let my mind wander off at the 10 min point and before I know it, I am a few minutes from the end!

W7R1 Complete!
My schedule has been hectic lately and I am finding it difficult to run as much as I would like but I am sticking with it. I ran week 7 today and still can't believe I am running for 25 min straight. What I also can't believe is how much I am beginning to love running and the way I really look forwa...

Re: Signed up for my first race
I don't think running 5k in under 40 min when 8 weeks ago you couldn't have done it is bad at all. My first 5K is Sept. 9 and I will be happy to finish it in under 40. I will just be happy to finish! Right now I am running an average of a 10 min mile...but I am running just over 2 miles. I imagine t...

Re: Week 5 run 3
You can! I swear so much of it is mental. Once you do your 20 minutes you will look at 10 min intervals and say to yourself "oh, only 10 min? I can do that easily!"
