Re: Where to buy good running shoes?

Just had to clarify...are you talking about a custom shoe or just having someone recommend a shoe specifically for you? I was thinking you meant the latter, and you're ultimately just getting something off-the-shelf. Also, once you know what your needs are you can find future pairs elsewhere, though...

Re: Where to buy good running shoes?

When I went in, I asked them to give me several options in various "budget categories". I did get suckered in to purchasing the most expensive pair because I could really feel the difference, and I didn't want ANY reason to stop running. I don't regret it a bit. I have not had any joint or...

Re: Good tips? Especially to win the mental battles?

Toadie, I totally know what you mean. I fight my mind a lot because it tells me I'm suffering SO very much, but then I think "Everything is working just fine! Lungs, heart, legs. All good. GO!!" If there is (nominal) pain, I tell myself it will work itself out and i just have to run throug...

Good tips? Especially to win the mental battles?

I thought I'd share a couple of tips that worked for me and ask for others. My running buddy keeps telling me to look straight ahead (just not down) and smile. I tend to hunch over and "wallow" in my suffering! Periodically we shake out our arms. They get tight. I have a weak mind and feel...

Re: What's the hardest week/run?

It has been a surprise which runs ended up "easier" or "harder". I'd agree that the interval runs after the 20 minute run was especially challenging, but there are a lot of variables at play. The biggest and best surprise is that you repeatedly accomplish more than you think you ...

Re: Slower than a speeding bullet! 12 minute mile!

Okay, thanks! Sounds like we will improve relatively quickly but it's not unusual as beginners to take more than 30 minutes for 5K. I gotta stop comparing myself to experienced runners.

As "Fiona" says...we were just running little one minute runs just WEEKS ago!

Re: W5!! 20min run eeeeekkkkk

I agree! You might surprise yourself! The intervals did seem harder after the 20 minute run. Remember your body "clicks" after a certain point and then it's just keeping your limbs moving, one after the other. Just reach the click and you're home free. Don't forget your body's been working...

Slower than a speeding bullet! 12 minute mile!

I had been celebrating my success so far in the program (just finished W7R1) but tonight am a bit deflated to learn I've been running a 12 minute mile. I'm willing to cut myself some slack because I'm a beginner to any form of exercise, but this is awfully slow, yes? Do we get *any* faster in the ne...

Re: Motivation for the program

I have to admit my two running buddies are helping make this effort happen. Their accountability and enthusiasm and determination to do a 5k on W9R3 are driving this! I don't dare let them down! Plus I spent $110 on running shoes! My goal, after the program, is to be able to get out by myself and ru...

Re: How crucial are rest days?

Thanks folks. I've squeezed in an extra run trying to keep as much time in between and it seems to have worked out fine. I've taken my rest seriously overall. :) I was extremely nervous about W5R3 and did just fine tonight. What an amazing program! It's changing my life! Keep up all the great work, ...
