Re: Great Reasons to Get Running

I'm coming from another angle. I want to look toned. I've always had large calves regardless of fitness level, and running is actually slimming them down -- it's dramatically motivating. I could stand to lose some weight, but I see regular exercise and diet as the way to achieve /that/. And as I sai...

Re: Anyone run with their dogs???

I just about ran with my dog tonight -- but I'm scared that he'll want to smell the roses and will kill my motivation or run. I don't want to waste the effort -- if he wants to walk, run is over until he's had his fill. And then... will I be in the mood, or sour :? Just sharing my worries. Maybe one...

Re: Motivation dwindling...

You really need a good album to listen to -- seriously. It seems trite, but the right music can make or break a run. I listen to the SAME album each and every run -- it's that motivating. Dropkick Murphy's Blackout -- it has the right mix of highs and lows -- and the right songs come on at the right...

Re: iPhone armband and Nike+

Finally had a positive run with Nike+ -- uncalibrated, outdoors on pavement, it said I ran 3.6mi when I ran 3.2mi -- pretty damn good. I calibrated it and we'll see if it fairs better next time. I'm not sure if the calibration assumed a mix of running and walking or not, though... So, more experimen...

Re: iPhone armband and Nike+

After reading all the reviews, that armband looks the best. The Tuneband was my original first thought, but this looks excellent!

iPhone armband and Nike+

Any opinions on a good iPhone armband? They seem to be not so good, and not that many.

Also, has anyone tried Nike+? Does the N+ app need to be running for it to collect data?

Re: Kit and Tips for Cold Weather Running?

I forget where I read it, but I loved that a doctor said a person shouldn't be running because they don't have a runner's body. The retort: That is precisely WHY I am running.

Re: Climbing and Running

Totally true. Like the voice, you end up feeling like you have the potential to be a real runner -- and hopefully faster by this point in time than it took to get to this point.

Climbing and Running

Growing up with asthma, I never ran a mile in my life without a break -- and the 8/5/8 run in week five was brutal on me, worse than any other run I have done. I intended to repeat it, but... I was at the climbing gym bouldering with my friend for about two hours. Usually, the last thing I could ima...

Re: Where to Run

I love the treadmill (never thought I'd say that in my life) because I can read my KindleDX on it. And it gives me a controlled environment to measure my progress.

Otherwise, I'm usually wearing my running shoes, and will jog almost anywhere I need to go outdoors, if it isn't awkward.
