Re: I DID IT!!!!!

Thanks Catgal. I just did W5R1, the weather is actually getting a bit cold for Florida this time of year, which is great! (Cold in my area is in the 50's) it went really well. Glad to not be sweating like a pig. Regards increasing speed: I've been doing a bit of research in the Internet about runnin...

Hydration

Perhaps this is a problem unique to running in a subtropical climate, but I am finding that it can take over a day to rehydrate myself after a run. I often feel dehydrated after a run and the next day too. I'm drinking a lot of water, though I don't drink during runs, but I am sure to drink a lot be...

Re: w6r3 - ran for 30 minutes!!!

That's awesome. There is nothing like finding a good rhythm. My body, I think, is still finding it a little stressful to run at over 30 pounds overweight, but I have run in the past and I think it's just a matter if getting that muscle memory back. Your body does learn over time how to run better an...

Re: I DID IT!!!!!

Congratulations Catgirl! You can still do a 5k, all you need to do is keep that pace for another 10 minutes. But intervals are definitely good. RunKeeper has a beginner 5K program. I'm not sure how good the coaching is, but when I'm done with week 9 (I start week 5 Monday) I think i will try it out.

Re: Go me! :)

Good job Dixie! I'm not doing long runs yet (still on Week 4) but I find that there is a really narrow sweet spot as far as pace where everything just kind of clicks and the running feels ok, even good. It's a very slow pace, I constantly struggle with the idea that, right now at over 30 pounds over...

Re: Go me! :)

Hi Dixie. I hate hills, and over here they are barely 5 feet high at best! I overdid my W4 run 1. I was overly enthusiastic about the cool weather and thought I could just put the petal to the metal. It was a tough run and for the first time I've had muscle soreness after a run (as an aside, that's ...

Re: Go me! :)

BTW, gloves will prevent you from using your iPhone. However there seem to be plenty of vendors (even in Florida! ;)) now that sell specialized gloves with some sort of material on the fungertips that allows them to be used with any touchscreen smartphone like the iPhone.

Re: Walking inbetween running days?

When the weather is nice I can't help but walk on the golf course. It's purely for pleasure, a very relaxed pace, not brisk, usually 40 minutes or so. If I had a pool and was looking for cardio to do on my off days I would swim, so if anyone wants to install a pool in my backyard let me know. :mrgre...

Re: Get Running + RunKeeper = Awesome! (and some advice)

I am loving it. I was finding Week 3 fairly easy, so today I decided to ramp it up a bit and see if I could set a new pace record. It was a little more painful than my previous runs and I really wasn't sure if I had put in enough effort (esp. with the mid-afternoon heat to deal with) but I was rewar...

Re: Running Blogs

Not a blog per se, but I'm on Week 3 and you can keep track of my progress here, including a weight loss goal. You can also join and encourage me! :D
