Shin pain particularly when walking

Post by catkims75 »

Hi all. I've started the Get Running app again after a couple of aborted attempts previously. Every time I have tried before, the pain in my shins has made me stop. I consider myself much fitter than when I first started (been going to the gym regularly and using the cross trainer). Really wanted to try running again, so went to specialist shoe shop to have gait analysed, bought some comfy trainers and started running outside for first time.

I was hoping the shoes would stop the pain but there it was again. Tonight (w1, r2) it was the walking part of the programme that really hurt my shins. I slowed to a very slow crawl. Once home, did some stretches and the pain hasn't continued. It's pretty much only sore when I'm doing the actual exercise.

I've got to presume the shoes are not the issue (although I still feel a bit flat footed despite getting some stability shoes) so what do you think it is? I really want to do this and I'm determined, is it just because I'm using muscles I haven't before, or could it be something more? Will it go away with time and practice? I don't think I have good form but I'm trying to work on that. I'd be gutted if I had to stop but it's actually painful rather than just hard work!
