my knee need rest

Post by fabrisky »

Hi all,

well i think I have to stop for a while the program, it is really frustratiing but well my knee is sore for about a month now, i was able to cope with that and thought well i finish the program then I will rest but I think I should stop now.

I had my gait checked and bought new shoes, but as soon a tried the new shoes yesterday it got worse not painfull but sore enough to stop in the mildle of the run.

I am curently at week 8 run 1 and it was the worst run I had so far. Funny enough my previous run was the best ever. 25 min, great weather, pace was faster than usual breathing was good and I duno, the felling was just great.

Before my knee got injured I have to stop for while until it gets better, soon enough hopefully. the thing is I am eager to have it fix, and go running again. Before I started the program it would have been the perfect excuse for me to stop, you know my knee hurt I have to stop bla bla bla....But it is the other way round, I can't wait until it gets better and go outside running, it makes me realize that I love running now, which wasnn't the case back afew month ago.

Anyway Just wondering if walking is okay when you have a sore knee, or I shouldn't do that as well ?

Cheers,
Fabrice.

Hi Fabrice,

Have you thought about swimming as the water will take all the pressure off your knee but you are still able to do some good exercise.

I have a friend who is a triathlete. He goes to see a Sports Physiotherapist when he has that sort of problem. It might be worth finding one if you can. They cost a bit of money - but it might help you avoid a more serious knee injury.

swiming is a great idea and definitely an activitie I am going to do as crosstraining.

Physiotherapist might be agood idea but I will see after a rest time how it goes and hopefully I won't have to see one, if it gets worse then I won't have any other choice I supose.

Cheers,
Fabrice.

Hi Fabrice, not too sure where you at in the world and I know that different countries have different medical systems but if it continues to bother you i' definitely get it check out. I my self have been out of the program for 6 weeks now and during it my knee was bothering me on and off. Eventually the other knee started hurting and I had to stop. Went and seen the Doc and she sent me for a battery of tests. X rays, ultra sound, blood work and an MRI. Not all results are back yet but one knee had a bakers cyst. Still waiting on MRI results and rheumatoid arthiritis results. My inflammatory levels were up on my blood, could be due to arthiritis or the swelling that was on my knees at the time. The Doc wants me to go back for blood work in 5 weeks to see if the inflamitory levels are still climbing or falling back. It's a long process so it is definitely worth getting the ball rolling. In the mean time my doc says no running. Whilst I've been laid up ive been doing some research into barefoot/minimilist running. I like the theory of the style in which they run. It might be something to look into if you haven't already done so. Good luck with everything

Hi looneytunes,

I curently live in Ireland but I'm french.

Sorry to hear that you have to stop for a while and I hope you'll get well soon and back on the track.

You right it is probably wiser to have it checked. I stopped running for a week and gave it a new try yesterday.
A friend of mine who is a marathoner told me to run on the grass for a while, which I did yesterday, my knee is still a bit sore but less than last week. I used to run on a hilly road and pretty curved, I've heard that it could cause knee pain as well. For now I will keep going on grass and see how it goes before seeing any specialist as long as it is sore and not painfull I think/hope I can keep going.

I was so impatient to run again yesterday that I went for the 30 min run and did it :) as I want to finish the program completly I am going back where I stoped week 8 run 1.

I sincerly wish you all the best for your knee, it is always sad to hear that one has to stop because of an injurie. I guess injuries is something that most runners have to deal with. My marathoner friends told me that he came through all kind of pain, injuries and had to stop running a few times but he is 55 now and still going.

Take care,
Fabrice.

Yeah it's funny in all the time I played rugby I never got injured as much as I do running, lol. That's good that it's a your kneemis a bit better. I'm sure I would of carried on too if it wasn't for the fact that they were so swollen and I couldn't straighten my legs.

I'm gonna say this cause I have to but I know I wouldnt listen to my self, take it easy and don't over work it:) And well done to your friend for still running at 55. I hope that I can get through this and be running when I'm that age:)

Good luck with the rest of the program I'm very jealous, lol:)

If your knees are hurting that bad, I would see a doctor and get some tests done. Do you have Affordable Health Insurance? I know usually they'll do a MRI to see if there is any cartilage damage or tears. Running, especially on pavement, can do some damage on one's knees but with good shoes and a proper running technique you can reduce those risks.
