Complete Newbie!

Post by SammyN »

Hi all!
I've never been in to running, I used to use my asthma and large chest as an excuse! I was quite active when I was younger, but as I became an adult I got quite lazy. Up until 2007 I weighed around 14st most of the time, joined weight watchers and went down to 11st within a few months n stayed this way until recently when a few health n personal issues on top lead me to go bk up to 13.5st! I Absoloutely hate it! So, I've gone back on WW but, have decided I want to get fit too! I've joined the gym, and yesterday did my first session on the treadmill doing Week One Run 1! I must be a bit fitter than I thought, as I managed to do it without keeling over - although I didn't run very fast n only covered 3k in total, but I was so pleased with myself! I loved the app too, and found it encouraging! Today I tried a different app, and although it was a similar work out the actual app and encouragement just wasn't the same... So I'm def sticking with Get Running! I am actually looking fwd to doing the next run!! Something I never thought I would say! :-)

Welcome Sammy. I never thought I'd look forward to running either, but this program has changed everything. I'm 15st and 47 and have never been a runner in the past. On Tues I start week 6. Keep it up, and keep checking in on this forum. It may end up being one of the most positive things you've ever experienced. Best of luck to you.

I'd echo YikesMn. Well done - enjoy this. Keep running and keep posting. I'm 47 too. And gone from a no-nrunner in July to a keen runner only a few months later. I would never have believed it before...

Thanks for the warm welcome, it's good to know there are some like minded people out there in similar situations or have been through the same thing! I turned 30 at the end of August, and was definitely looking for a new challenge in life especially now I am single. Plus, I've joined a gym where my two children can come along and use the kids equipment, so no excuse not to go! :-)

Hi and welcome,

I'm a newbie too only on Week 2, Run 1. I used to use my large bra size and my short legs as my excuse not to run :P but since finding this app I've never been so motivated to run!

Keep posting ... this place is full of likeminded people and will find alot of motivation and inspiration

Welcome along Sammy. Stick with it. It might not seem like it yet, but by running you've started yourself on one of the most positive and addictive (in a good way) paths there is.

Been running for nearly a year but still feel like a complete beginner. Which is good, because I run like one too. Anyway, I like to blog about my escapades. Feel free to point your interweb at www.borntoplod.wordpress.com
