Leg pain

Post by masands »

Hi guys
I just finished week 4 run 1 today and I'm so proud of myself. In fact I was shocked to discover my heart rate had hardly gone up. What I mean is when I did my first ever run I got severe chest pain and pretty much puked on the side of the road, I was so tired. However, since week 2 my heart rate and the chest pain has gone down dramatically while running which Is great, I think I'm really getting fitter.
However I get some serious leg pain mostly in my left leg after 2 minutes of running( I did not get this in weeks 1 and 2). Both my legs feel like they are made of lead and I swear if it wasn't for this pain I could do the 20 minute run today itself. I can really seem to understand what is the source of this pain, is it just natural because I have never run in my life before?
I would like to get this sorted before next weeks 20 min run.
Summary: heart rate and tiredness is not a problem in my run. However I'm getting severe leg pain early in the run itself.
Thanks for the help.

I finished week 4 run 1 today too! :D

I don't have an answer for your leg pain, but I thought I'd mention a similarity between us... I did find today's run easier than week 1 (my breathing and heart rate have improved), but I sometimes get a really painful side stitch which is really hard to run through. I think I'd find the program much easier if I could get rid of it, but so far I can't seem to predict when it'll crop up, despite altering pace/food intake :(

Frustrating, because at the end of the day today I wasn't tired and would've been able to run more if I wasn't holding my side in pain! Perhaps both our issues are things that are fixed by practice.

Problem solved!
It was my orthopedics. I removed them from my shoes which felt so much more comfy. I finished W5R1 today with no pain, no tiredness and even sprinted the last 5 minutes. Feel great!!
Thanks for the help mercury, much appreciated! :D
