Good point! I suppose the point is just to keep running!

Just done week6run1. Despite advice to pace myself, my brain saw 'run5 mins' and thought 'Pah, easy' so started too fast and by the end of the 8 min run I was begging for the voice to say 'walk'.Lesson learned. However went further than ever before so knackered but smug. Running in California sounds like hard work; I think I might go on a treadmill there. And it might get over my problem of leaping onto the high grass verge when cars late for work race past me too fast and too close. Good luck with next runs everyone

Well I wasn't able to complete my next run. When I try, I get about 10 mins in and then my shins are ina bsolute agony. Its so bad I just can't continue (not even walking...in fact the walking is often worse than the run). I feel so upset about it. Its not my general fitness, after I gave up (

) I did 25 mins on the crosstrainer at 9km/hr and 15 mins on the rowing machine, but its just the walking/running. I don't know if I'm causing damage to myself by trying to carry on, whether it will get better once I get more used to it or whether running just isn't for me.
I bought some new shoes two weeeks ago so can't afford any more - but I don't think it can be that anyway.

Hi Catkims. I'm sorry to hear your problems and frustration. Well done for keeping trying. Many woul already have given up. I'm wondering if you age getting shin splints? Though these are more common in advanced runners, they can occur for novices too. See
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_splints. Does your gym have a personal trainer or running coach? Maybe have a week off then try w1r1 again? Good luck.
