All these stories are so inspiring! I'd love to know you're all doing too.
I am thinking of buying some running shoes but I am concerned that I'll buy some but not carry on and it will be a waste of money.

Hi Dawn
Thanks for the support, having never run before in my life, I am finding the app brilliant and the forum an added boost.
Today I did week 1 run 2, which I have to say I found easier, The first run I have to admit I did pause in between runs, but today I did the whole thing no pauses. Such a achievement for me, I was so pleased with my self, and I think my husband was a little shocked I did it too.
Looking forward to doing Sundays run, no more dread at the thought of exercise, and feeling as though there's no stopping me now.
The only question I do have is - is there an add-on app for getting my breathing into the right rhythm with my running
Many thanks again

Just finished first run. I am motivated by my children who have just joined an athletics club. They have long waiting lists of kids wanting to run and very few coaches. After helping for a couple of evenings they asked if I would be interested in doing the coaching course so no option I need to get fit!

Benjohn thank you for your advice. I wasn't able to get on the Internet until weekend so hadn't read reply. I did the next session next day and took it slowly but this time my knees have really ached so much so I have had trouble even walking. I keep massaging them with arnica gel and keep stretching them out. I'm a bit worried now though having read that you can cause serious problems with knee joints. What am I doing wrong?? I have hAd two days rest went out again at the weekend managed three minutes much to my amazement but it was only slowly jogging not much faster than a walk!! I have been doing lots of stretching but my knees are very hot and painful again!! I really don't want to give it up. Could it be the trainers? Any advice would be good.

If you get any sharp or sudden pain in your knees, you should probably stop and have a talk to a health professional of some kind (I'm definitely not a health professional, and I can't give authoritative advice!

). If your knees are aching, you might find that getting shoes that help with under / over pronation would help. A good running shop will be able to help you with this and they should give you a range of price options rather then just try to sell you something very expensive!
Don't worry about going slowly. Find the pace that you can finish the run at. You can work on speeding up later on.
Thanks,
Benjohn

Hi Nicky,
There are lots of articles about breathing on various running sites, a lot of them say it's difficult to give good advice because breathing should feel natural to each individual. Also - i read one that reminded readers that it is natural to feel out of breath sometimes when doing excercise
It takes me a good five mins to get into my natural rhythm - during the first five mins i feel completely rubbish! I am not experienced enough to offer real advice

But i bet there is someone here who can
Dawn
