Heel injury advise needed

Hello all,

When I first started the programme I was wearing the wrong shoes and I was in quite a bit of discomfort, to the point that I looked stupid walking down the stairs, it was mainly in the Achilles tendon area in the heel. So after a bit of research I took a week off and picked back up again at week 2

I just about hit week 3 although I was struggling, I then walked a friends dog and forgot my walking boots and the pain came back I'm not wholey convinced it had gone away.

I've been resting it for just over a week now although have been swimming quite a lot. I think I should probably wait until next Monday as today is the first day I haven't felt an ache in the heel when getting up. I'm really wanting to get going again.

So two questions should I get going straight away or wait until Monday and which week should I do, should I start again completely or try week 3 or split the difference and do week 2 which I was ok at before.

Many thanks

If this is something that keeps coming back then you really ought to see your doctor. One of the best things for achilles tendinitis is aggressive stretching (calf stretch). If that isnt helping then you need to see someone about it. I would encourage you to go sooner rather than later. The sooner you go the easier it will be to take care of it.

Please see a doctor if you can. There are any number of things that manifest as heel pain, and none of them are fun over the long term.

Thank you so much for the replies. As much as I don't want to admit it - I hate going to the doctors, the thought had crossed my mind and I think you could be right.

Today has been much much better (8 days since my last run) and only very slightly stiff when I've been sat down for a while. So I will moniter it for the next few days and I will go next week if it's still niggling on Monday.

I'm trying to keep the fitness momentum going with swimming and cycling which don't seem to effect it at all.
