HELP!

Hi - listened to running app this aft while out walking & can't imagine getting past Day 1 a complete beginner and not a spring chicken! When is best time of day to run Is it normal to have legs like lead and how long before it will improve?!

Lead legs - quite normal - at least for me!

Since the programme progressively raises the bar, lead legs remains a common aspect - again, at least for me!

But the programme & the progression is very well conceived - trust in it! You will be surprised at how much you can do and how soon. Yes it is a challenge, but it is a very well paced challenge. :D

Hi,

Day one was tough going for me - I ached and hurt for two days after. This was last Monday, in the midst of a heat wave and at 3pm because that's when the desire to do the C25K struck me!

BUT...I have one day left of week two and I haven't ached since! :) It's really not bad at all, in fact, I'm enjoying it. You can see my blog over at http://couchto5kmission.blogspot.com - there are loads of other great blogs on the blog thread.

The reason for my hurting legs was, I think, walking too quickly up a slight incline and not stretching properly. It's been a while since I was regularly stretching after a gym workout, and although I'd remembered the stretches I had forgotten to 'shake it out'! I put that right and haven't ached since. :)

I hope the hurting bit didn't put you off. I wanted to be encouraging by showing that I'm not a fit person any more, but got through week one and almost week two! I even feel confident for week three. Someone told me to hold stretches for at least 20 seconds, so with that, and the shaking out you should be fine! :)

Oh and to answer your question, I have taken to morning runs. This is because my 21 month old daughter tends to wake up around 7-7:30 at the moment so I like to be out at 6, and back, showered and dressed before she and my partner wake up.

It's also just so lovely to be out in the world when it's so quiet and still. Where I go, the bunnies are lively and the early sun casts a gorgeous light over the fields - that's inspiration for me to get out of bed! :D Just find what's best for you. I'm not sure if there is a good/bad time.

:mrgreen: thanks for all yr replies am determined to give it a go Early mornings sound great and hopefully nobody around to see me suffering! If anyone else out there is starting week it would be great to hear from you & compare notes?

A quick note – if you're comfortable walking somewhat quickly for half an hour, then you should ready to start week one without a problem. If you need to, then just spend a couple of weeks going for walks, and then start get running. Otherwise, just jump in and don't worry if you don't make it. You can build up to finishing the first runs, if necessary – Get Running makes it easy enough to cut a run short :-)
