I can't really give you tips or advice because I'm a newbie too. I am doing W1R3 tomorrow morning. But I can relate to you. I quit smoking in january and am trying to live a more healthy lifestyle. Let me know how your runs go I'd enjoy comparing notes.

Just take your time, don't worry about how slow/fast you're running (find the right pace for YOU), and try to enjoy yourself. You'll do great!

I finished up week one yesterday morning and I was actually able to do a little extra. I think I am going to get addicted to this running thing. Lol. And the good news is my legs don't hurt like they did after the first two runs. There is still some muscle soreness but not like before, after the first two runs I was walking funny all day lol. I also download an app from active.com where you can look up events all over. I'm not sure if it is just for the US or if it covers the UK too. I complete this program on may 4 and I found a 5k locally the very next weekend. So now I have my goal set. How about you? How did the second run go? I've found that the first 10 minutes or so are tortorious but after that I'm kind of on cruise control which is the exact opposite of my expectations.

Hi,good news on the legs!!.Im kind of presuming that muscle soreness is the norm when you undertake something like this, but it sounds like you are doing great and you certainly are keen entering a 5 k in may.....good on you,it's great to have something to aim for.As for me I done wk1 run 2 this morning and it was fine,in run 1 I had slight shin splints on 1 leg.I was a bit concerned so I asked my cousin who is a trainer for a county cricket club over here if there was anything I could do and was given an excercise to do daily and today although it was a bit sore certainly showed signs of improvement!!.Im starting to quite enjoy myself whilst doing this now and look forward to Tuesday ....bring it on!! :D

Wonderful, I'm glad you are enjoying it and looking forward to future runs, we are in the same boat. I've gotten a little ambitious and have done w2r1 and w2r2 early. I just love the way I feel after a run and want to keep that going. I plan on taking tomorrow off and finishing up week 2 on Thursday.

And you I want to hear about you and your w1r3. How did it go? I know I had a huge sense of accomplishment when I completed it, I hope you get the same.

Happy running
Tom

Hi Tom,I finished wk1 earlier and your right there was a feel of accomplishment!.Looking forward to starting wk 2 on Friday,I feel in a really good place with my progress and really look forward to my runs.Im inclined to maybe bring some of the runs forward as I'm feeling good and have no bad effects.Another part of me thinks maybe I should just try to stick to the program!!.How early did you do runs 1&2 of wk2 ?,I may follow your lead and start week 2 a day early.Im at the point where Im rushing my work so I can get out on the road!! Im glad that its all going so well for you,let me know how you feel on completion of your 2nd week.Take care.Iain :D

I did runs 1 and 2 of week 2 on Monday and Tuesday of this week. I took Wednesday off and just finished up run 3 this morning. I feel better all day at work on the days that I run. However I think the proper way to do it is at your own pace whatever it may be. It is not a competition. That being said I have the personality type where I am always pushing myself. There is no right or wrong answer.
