Set off for my wk 5 run 1 today and everything going quite well just about to start the second 5 minute run when there was a car crash on the road where I was. Obviously i went to help and stayed with a little boy until someone came that he knew, about 15 mins. I then restarted my run where I had left off. Should I have started at the beginning again? Should I repeat the run.
I did finish ok, just!! Not really looking forward to the next few runs but am determined to keep at it, so much so I just bought a new pair of real trainers, properly fitted as well!! Expensive but worth the money, knees don't hurt half as much now!!

Just want to say reading all the posts makes me feel as though I am not the only one that is struggling, so thanks everyone.

Hello,

I am no expert! but i would start wk5 run 2 if i was you. If i struggled too much i would swich back possibly. I know that I never felt confident about moving forward, but when I did - i always managed...but if i failed ever - i didn't give myself a hard time - just tried again next time. It's great that you are determined. I try to just remember i want to enjoy it - so i try not to pile on the pressure....

I did the 25 min run earlier in the week and It was torture, really bad - too hot - just horribe...only just managed 20 mins but today I did 28 mins no problem :) I am so far lucky with pains - just not had any. Do you run on the streets or off road?

Hi
Thanks for your reply, I actually went ahead and did run 2 and have since done run 3! i have to admit I did run 3 in the gym on the treadmill! it is easier i know but I had had a really busy weekend and I knew that if I went out on the street I wouldn't run for the full 20 minutes. When I use the treadmill I don't feel I can stop, I tend to keep up the pace, although i did slow down a bit in the last 5 mins of the run, but I still finished.
i can't believe it really, never thought I could do it.
i don't run very fast, 8km an hour is the fastest i get to on the treadmill, and I know I am slower than that on the road, but I will try and speed up once I get to week 9!

Thanks for the support.

How are you going?

Hi - great.....see? :) I think it's the confidence that needs boosting along with the cardio and the muscles :) lol I am still plodding along - had a rubbish run the day before yesterday again but i am blamining the stray dog i had to rescue and my new ear phones!!! Today I should have run but i decided to join a bootcamp class at my local park! Right now i can't imagine ever being able to walk again let alone run!!! :) All i can say is thank goodness I have been running now for 7 weeks otherwise i don't think i'd still be here after that class!!!!

I run very slowly. I am in need of losing a lot of weight so - in a class like today - although i can keep going - i am slower than the others! I am not bothered.... i am pushing myself so i am sure i am improving and that's all that matters to me. I just can't see myself running on a treadmill...it worries me! :)

So...... you start week 6 tomorrow??

Hi, I was looking at boot camp exercise myself, my daughter does it and says whilst it is hard it is great fun. However, she did say, quite tactfully, that it might not be for me. Not sure if she was referring to my age, weight or lack of fitness!

I start week 6 tomorrow, not sure how I will go on though, been a manic week at work and working very long hours but I am determined to do it!

I think the running must be doing something for my weight, although it doesn't show on the scales as I wore a dress today that I didn't think I would ever get in to!

Where are you up to in the programme?

I have started thinking about what I will do at the end of the 9 weeks but not come up with anything yet. My husband ran the new York marathon a few years ago and I would love to show him that I can do it but I think that is a bit ambitious for me. Might try to do 5km first then 10km by the end of the year and take it from there.

What do you want to achieve?

I found the bootcamp really hard work but manageable and I am overweight and 45 so if you fancy it - i'd give it a go. Still can't bend down today! My legs are killing me! :) I used to do a lot of kickboxing and my aim is to get back to that really, but these classes will give mr an extra push.

I am in Week 7 although I have done the program part way before but gave up due to illness and summer!

I have looked at the bridge to 10K program and will possible move onto the when i complete this one. I run off road so not really interested in marathons and the like - i just want to keep running and keep enjoying it really. i like the opportunity to get out in the fresh air and i like that it's solitary. I love not having to compare myself or my progress to anyone else, just me! :)

Where are you based and where are you running?

Hi
i have just done my 2nd run of week 6 and found it really hard, not sure why, think i must be just dog tired. I am not too hopeful about run 3!!

I am based just outside Southampton, UK what about you?

I understand what you mean about the solitary nature of running, even when I go to the gym and use the tread mill I don't want to speak to anyone, I spend all day every day talking to people so for me it is bliss to just put my headphones on and blot out the world, albeit for only 30 mins or so.

I am off on holiday in a couple of week so will take my running gear with me as the campsite we are going to has a new gym, it will be too hot to run outside so I will just use the gym, well that's the theory anyway!!

I am determined in my mind, just have to get the rest of my body to be as determined, that is a big ask of it.

Good luck for the next week.
