New runner with knee pain concern.

Hello,

I just finished my 1st week yesterday, and during the last 2 runs I have had some soreness/weakness developing on the inside of my knees.

My right leg is worse than my left, but I have the same feeling or sensation in both legs. The area of concern is at the top of the leg bone, below the knee on the inside of my leg. In fact if I tap with my fingers on the correct location, I get a kind of "funny bone" type of pain sensation that radiates in the general area. If I am just sitting my knees feel fatigued, almost an arthritic feeling about the whole knee area.

Question is, is this normal pain from joints and bones pounding together, is that an area where a ligament or cartilage attach, or have I blown my knee up and my training is over with??

Any advise, or if you have had a similiar experience please let me know.

Thank you,

Dave

Update

I went to a local running store and they videotaped me running on a treadmill. It appears that I am a neutral runner and have been wearing the correct shoes. I think my knees hurt because I haven't run in decades.

I am going to run tomorrow and focus on my cadence, i will work on stretching and icing after my run. If pain continues after a few more runs then I will go see a doctor.

In general, the running store was very helpful and I am glad that I "officially" know the type of foot I have and that my mechanics are decent. :)

Hi Dredemer. Seems there are a few queries re knees. I've just replied to another post on this forum - see below. if you get the pains/sensation when you press yoru knee-cap against the knee joint and sldie it from side to side you poss have got mis-tracking.
Hi. It may be your VM (vastus medialis) muscles which need a bit of work doign to them. If they are a bit weak you can get mis-tracking of your patella leading to pain (patellofemoral syndrome). Use Google to look at "vastus medialis exercises". Find something do-able for you. If still having probs I agree with Petra - see a physio or a doc. I'd not bother with magnetic thingys. Sound a waste of money to me (Mike - am a GP - but not a sports specialist)
