Rookie here!

Post by Spitfire »

Just finished first run of the first week. Good grief. I didn't realize I was *that* out of shape! Wanted the quit halfway through but I kept telling myself "Just do one more run" over and over until I really only had one more run left! Everything, and I mean returning, hurts but I'm super proud of myself! I hope it's a bit easier on the next run or I'm gonna feel really unmotivated! :-/

IMHO it will not get any worse than the first one but you will have runs that feel easier. Just about to do w5r3 tomorrow so perhaps I should have waited until afterwards to reply ;-)

Welcome Spitfire and Dunna. Well done on starting the journey! The first runs are always th ehardest. I struggled in weeks 1-3 and then it all just fell beautifully into place. Stick with it. Keep your speed low. Make sure you do the full 5 mins warm up and stretches afte rth e5 minute cool down. And remember that ache in your legs is gooood! ;)

Thanks everyone for posting. It's really good to get support and tonhear how you are all doing. My legs are feeling it tonight - I admit I'm surprised! Thought my biggest problem would be stamina. Vanity question - I won't end up with big thighs will I??!

Hi Dunna and everyone,

I am running to actually reduce my thunder thighs :-). I,ve not seen long distance runners with particularly large thighs at all. I have finished day 2 of weeknone tonight and also My limbs are feeling a bit achy more so than day one, hope it will clear before day 3? Goodnight have plenty rest!

Hi vinnette - thanks for your post! Was actually thinking the same thing today re the thighs! I have never seen a fat runner! Trying to loose a few pounds myself. It's never easy but I hope that Incan stick with it. Week 1 run 3 tomorrow. Found second run that the first. legs were a bit sore and tight but it didn't last and they were fine the morning after. Keep posting please - we can motivate each other!!

I also just completed w1 run 1 today, I did it on the treadmill but I plan to alternate between the treadmill and running outside, I am very unfit and have never run before, I am doing this to help with weight loss. I would love to participate in a fun run it would be a real sense of achievement. I am also doing bootcamp outdoors 2 times a week and dragon boat paddling 3 times a week in order to help build up my fitness, I'll either get really fit or I'll kill myself trying. LOL . I felt ok after my first run, pretty exhausted, but felt proud that i had finished it and didnt quit before the end.

Hi Lesley - I did w1 r3 yesterday and it felt brilliant to have completed week one. Nervously excited about w2 r1 which I hope to do tomorrow am before work. Really really want to get to the end of this programme!! My hope is that i will end up loving to run and that I will enjoy keeping fit and health this way. I have tried lots of classes and there are plenty that I really enjoyed but because o travel a lot for work I really want to exercise in a way that I can do anywhere any time with anybody or alone. I hope to run a 10 k in June (starting early) but will look out for a 5k closer to the end of this programme. Good luck and keep posting.
