Re: Intense Ankle Pain (Week 2)
Power through the pain! Not good advice, even if it was a joke... if someone has a real ankle/knee injury, they need to moderate their running until it's healed. If it's muscular, stretching and trigger point work would help, but just keeping on running without changing anything won't change the si...

Re: Intense Ankle Pain (Week 2)
If your leg/knee/ankle is really hurting before a run, and you stretch beforehand, ideally combined with trigger point work, it may be better than running with tight muscles. Generally I prefer to walk for 5 minutes then do stretches, but sometimes you can get a better stretch at home before you sta...

Re: Newish Starter Legs Sore
A few tips on sorting out knee/ankle/leg pains in my other post here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=951#p5287 - short version is that stretching and trigger point work sorted out pain for me.

Re: Running shorts + progress
Just finished week 8 run 3 and I have bought some running shorts :) In case others are interested, given how crap websites are at describing the pockets: the shorts are Adidas Clima 365, with two front pockets that can hold an iPhone 3GS, in an Otterbox commuter case that adds a little bulk - probab...

Re: Week 9 here I come
Just finished week 8 and wondering what to do next myself. Probably I will push on until I can do a full 5K evey time. I have been using the Runmeter app, which runs in the background alongside Get Running - you can set this to announce your progress every few minutes, and it tells you how many minu...

Re: Intense Ankle Pain (Week 2)
I had some knee pains at a similar point (just finished week 8) - generally the pains were much worse in first few weeks and have now mostly gone. A few ideas: Be sure to stretch a LOT before, during and after your run. Often it is tight muscles causing the pain in joints such as ankles and knees, a...

Re: What do people use to carry their phones?
I use the pocket in my running shorts. I have a new pair of shorts that I want to wear, but no pocket. I've heard that the arm bands can get uncomfortable over long distances, so I'll be going for a belt when I get around to it and am doing distances that mean its a good idea to bring water with me...

Re: Running shorts + progress
I've mostly tried Amazon for shorts but will try some other sites - the trouble is that they never mention the dimensions of pockets, hence looking for a recommendation. Maybe people use an armband holder for the iPhone instead? Despite being a really really unfit person to start with (working at ho...

Running shorts + progress
I'm looking for some basic running shorts that have a pocket big enough for an iPhone, now that the weather is warming up - I started running in loose, torn jeans (probably not recommended but I was going quite slowly so it was fine) then Ronhill Tracksters which look better but are a bit warmer. Wo...

Re: Wet feet - good running shoes?
@Matt - thanks for the Moti recommendation. I went to their Bristol shop (Whiteladies Road in Clifton, website ) and got fitted with some good running shoes - they do gait analysis, which means videoing you running on a treadmill and analysing how much your foot rotates, as well as seeing how you ba...
