Rebounder instead of road

Post by Swizzlestick »

I wonder if anybody runs on a rebounder occasionally, instead of on the road? Where we live in rural France our local paths are very rough, stony and hilly, and when it isn't raining or too cold, it's too hot.

I've just started the Get Running app - never would have believed I could run for one minute, let alone 8, although perhaps running is not the most apt word, it was more like staggering, but I made it! I definitely want to keep it up, in fact I'm really looking forward to the second session tomorrow. But when it is too hot, or too cold, or too wet, is there any reason not to do the session on the rebounder? Do you think it would have the same results as running on a hard surface? I have arthritis in my back and knees, and find the rebounder is a great form of exercise as it does not jar the old bones.

What do people think about this?

:-) What's a rebounder?! Can you post a link?

The idea sounds reasonable enough though – you could use the same intervals on a cross trainer, for example.

Well done with starting and getting through your 8 runs! Hope you'll enjoy the next nine weeks :-)

Hi

Thanks for replying!

A rebounder is a mini-trampoline: http://www.reboundforfitness.com/ The great thing about it, apart from it's kind to the joints and fun and that you can watch the television while you do it  is that it doesn't take up much space, and when the weather is awful you can do it indoors.

I don't do the clever one-legged thing, or spin in circles, just jog steadily (sometimes unsteadily). So I was thinking that it would be good to use it for the Get Running app on those days when I can't get out. But I'm not sure whether it would give the same benefits, because it's a lot easier to run on the rebounder than on the road, as it's a lot springier, so maybe it doesn't require the same effort.

Off for day 2 today, and knock me down with a feather if you like, but I'm actually looking forward to it.

Surprising, isn't it? :-)
