Just finished 1st run.....

Post by vanwinkle248 »

Hello, just finished my 1st run. Well... I ran about 6 1/2 minutes of the eight but walked an extra few minutes. This is my first go at running and I got winded easily. Like many others I gained alot of weight after I quit smoking. Hoping running will get me back to around 220 lbs. I'm at 255 now. Is it necessary to ice your shins to avoid shin splints. Never had them but would like to avoid them so I don't quit before I get started.

You can use R.I.C.E. treatment on shin splints.

Also, take a read of other ways to help eliminate it or reduce it (it's mostly about stretching and the right shoes). Here's a link and this is the Google search I got it from.

Well done on getting started! Happy running!

Thanks BenJohn for the links, they came in handy after I finished W1R2. Made it all 8 minutes today. I iced my shins for about 15 minutes and they feel quit good. Thanks again.
