Daylight savings time

Post by dagix »

I will begin week 4 on Sunday. Week 5 will begin on Sunday Nov 7 but that marks the beginning of Daylight savings time. This means that when I awake in the morning, it will be dark and when I come home from work, it will be dark. Running outside will no longer be an option. Will I be cheating myself if I run on the treadmill at the gym?

I'm lucky to live in a great neighbourhood, so I'm happy to go and run when it's dark. If you've got option, you might want to give it a go. You kind of feel like you own the empty streets as you run along. It's pretty cool!

Don't worry about the treadmill either though – why not give it a try. I've only tried it once and found it very odd, but you might love it and it's certainly better than no running! The advice I've heard is to put some incline on, otherwise it's quite a bit easier than running outdoors. Also, don't worry about adjusting the pace. Outdoors you'd do that naturally, but on the 'mill you need to do it with buttons. I think some people get unstuck because they think they have to run at the fixed speed the treadmill will work at, but you should react to your body.

All the best,

I run at night, sometimes really late, 10/10:30pm near where I live, I've only ever ran late and when it's dark, find I sleep great too the nights I run, I lead a busy life and find it suits my life style. Felt a bit odd the first few nights but it's fine now.
