Week 1 Run 2...

Post by rynaldo »

got her done...:) I almost didn't think how bad my quads have been killing me since Monday's first run, that there was no way I was going to get this done...I was quite surprised I loosed up more than I thought I would... And this run was not even quite as bad as that first one...I haven't been active like this for 15 years...:( I assumed I would have soreness, but WOW!!! my quads are the main issue... probably my weight for sure... 230 5' 11"... I am hoping I will be ready for Friday... hope everyone is hanging in there...

In my experience, if you can manage to massage your muscles (or have a parter / friend / professional do it for you), you'll really help to speed up the recovery time and reduce discomfort enormously.

It's also vital that you stretch well after you run. You want to hold each stretch on each side for about 30 seconds. Yes! 30! That's quite a long time :-) If your muscles are playing up a lot, then just do some more stretches on that muscle through the day to help keep it loose.

You'll find as the muscles get used to it in a few weeks, the discomfort will pass (unless you really push yourself, but gradual increases are generally a better idea).

All the best!
