After getting to week 8, running for 28 minutes and not feeling great (sore knee and just generally not feeling very strong) - I back tracked to week 5. The best thing I could have done and I can definitely recomend it if you feel you are not quite ready.
I am now finishing week 8 and am feeling so much better for taking it easy. Heck, I have done so little exercise for so many years - what's an extra week or two on the path to fitness! Yesterday I ran 28 minutes again and loved every minute of it - a spring celebration. After laying off for so many years I feel like a runner again. I was so excited I called my old Two Oceans Marathon training partner back in Cape Town (from '81) to let him know I am up and running again.
Next week I am in the north of Poland for work, on the Baltic Sea - and looking forward to "graduating".
Onwards and upwards!
Cheers
Nick
On the home straight...
Re: On the home straight...
Some days you run with a spring in your step....you litteraly feel like you are flying - other days your body feels like lead and it is a trudge from beginning to end. Today was such a day - early morning grey skies, feeling tired, and even Mark Knopfler's music on the iPhone was rather mournful - but hey, I finished, ran 28 minutes non stop - so today is going to be a good day!! Any run is a good run.
Re: On the home straight...
I did the same. I started week 8 and it just didn't feel right, so I took a day or so off and went back to week 6. I have just ran week 8 - Run 2 and can't wait for tomorrow to come along.
I have even thought about bringing tomorrow's run forward to today. Really looking forward to graduating and then going to try and increase my speed and distances.
Any advice on any other iPhone apps etc I can use after graduation.

I use the RunKeeper app as well. I find it very motivating as it records and logs all your runs, including the Google map of the route - it then synchs with your records on the web site. It is very motivating to see your mileage build up, weekly and monthly totals etc, best times, distances etc. Its like the old runners log book which I used to keep (when I was a much younger man!) - but in electronic form.
So, when I finsh the GetRunning app (3 more to go!) - I plan to run 4 or 5 times a week, 40 minutes at a time - and record my progres on RunKeeper. My goal is to run a 10 k race in Lyon, France in October. I ran many marathons and a few ultras in the 80's. Definitely intend to do no more than the occasional 10 k now. My goal now is just to get and stay fit and keep injury free (knees, back etc being the vulnerable areas). And remember stretch, stretch and stretch again after each run!
Good luck!

Re: On the home straight...
RunKeeper is excellent and you can programme in your own training patterns too after Get Running - that is likely what I will do when I reach the end too.
Entered the Challenge Scotland 5k in June so that is my target!

Re: On the home straight...
Today was one of those "flying" days! Finished my first 30 min run at 7:00 this morning - sun coming up over the Alps and a beautiful spring day here in Lyon, France.
