Playlist technical help

Post by Rungirl »

Hi, I have just completed wk 1 and am loving this app. I have never been a runner and always struggled to run. I find listening to my playlist helps however on the prompts for changing activity ie between walks and runs, is progressing the song to the next on the playlist. Is this normal? I would prefer to hear the songs completely as my playlist is set up for the 30 mins. Any advice on what is happening and how I can change it?

Thx. C

Hi Rungirl,

I'm Benjohn – the developer. Thanks for getting in touch. That sounds really annoying and it shouldn't help. I'll have a try at helping!

Could you do a few things first though. Check that you've got the most up to date version of the operating system on your device and check that you also have the most up to date version of Get Running also (1.8.3). Finally, before you try to see if it work, please turn off your device completely and then turn it on again. To do this, press and hold the power button for five seconds until "Slide to power off" is shown. Slide this over and then wait while the device shuts down. Then press and release the power button and wait for your devise to start up.

If all that doesn't work, please let me know which kind of device you are using, and the generation (iPod 2nd gen, iPhone 3Gs, etc). If you have changed any of Get Running's settings, please tell me what you have set them too (tap on the cogs at the bottom right of Get Running's main screen). Finally – are you playing music from the standard built in iPod music App, or from some other App?

Sorry there's a lot to read there. Hopefully it'll be sorted out, but let me know that other stuff if not.

Thanks,
Benjohn

Hi Benjohn, firstly let me thank you for this great app - with it I truly believe I'll be able to learn to run! Secondly thank you for your quick response to my query.

I checked and have latest versions of both OS and app. I did recall that recently I'd had an OS update and since had not restarted so did this. When running this morning I started the iPod function of the phone and then Get Running app and for the first half of the run all was good - so I was putting it down to the restart. However I then double clicked the home button so I could replay a song and as soon as I had done that - with the music menu at the bottom of the screen it started happening again that on cue changes the song changed.

I am using an iPhone 4. Haven't changed any of the app settings knowingly. I am using the phones standard iPod function for my music/playlist. I have the playlist in shuffle mode

Now that I know it works OK without the music menu present it's not such a drama - but if there is something I can do to stop it it would be great - as it is nice to be able to replay a particularly motivating tune .

Thanks again, 

Ah! Turn off shuffle mode. Sorry :-( That's probably annoying. When Get Running resumes your music it sends the iPod a play message, and I think this will skip tracks.

By the way – do take a quick look in the settings (cog at the bottom right of the main screen). For "While Coaching", do you have "Lower Music Volume" selected, or "Pause Music Playback"? For music you'll be better off with "Lower Music Volume". If you don't see this setting it means you're on an older device and pause will be used which could be slightly buggy.

Let me know if that doesn't help.

Thanks,
Benjohn
