The mission to lose weight-Week 1 Run 1 complete!

Post by ToriD »

My weight has been bothering me for a while and with no real exercise videos working or any other form of trying to keep my eyes off the biscuit tin I decided the only way to get in shape for summer is to start running. I went on holidays with my boyfriend to visit his parents a week or 2 ago and found their treadmill dusty and unused. I decided to see how much I could run. Now I didn't know treadmill running was easier than outside running so was very impressed when I could run 2k straight up and a further 1k after 2k walking. Then when I got home and tried to repeat my triumph outside I found myself spluttering for air and my legs burning with fury at my foolish decision. So I bought this app. I was dubious at first as I thought, no one is going to get me running outside, it's impossible!! Then today I decided to bite the bit and give it a go. Although it wasn't easy (and I did not expect it to be) I was quite impressed I managed it! I'm not the most confident person at the moment as I'm a stone or so away from my former slim physique so running outside and around my house was a little challenging but with a few good beats and the encouragement 28 minutes passed so quickly! Just wondering if anyone else is a little further along than me and is trying to lose weight and has any words of encouragement or success with weight loss from starting running?? Motivation desperately needed as I already see my feet wandering to the chocolate in the pantry! Also a tip for anyone who wants to know how far they have run how many calories etc, you can use addidas micoach at the same time as this app and as a free work out it records how far you run, your pace, your workout length and calories burned via GPS!

Hi tori

I also started today. I really thought 1 min running and 1.5 min walking would be easy ( I was wrong)! My biggest problem is I'm a quiter. I've quit almost every diet that exists, my gym membership is dusty but costs me a fortune and somehow the chocolate always looks yummiest! I'm my own worst enemy and that annoys me no end as I can only blame myself.

Feeling chugged though- I didn't quit day 1 wk 1 and I've promised myself to try again tomorrow. I know it says to have a rest day, but hey I'm youngish (30) and need to make the most of this motivation whilst I have it.

I'd love to share stories ( success)

Hiya! Thanks for the tip on the Adidas miCoach app. I'm downloading it as I'm typing this up. I just wanted to share a tip that I've discovered that helps me curb my chocolate/sweet cravings.

I read that 1% chocolate milk is probably the best drink that a runner can have to re-hydrate themselves after a run + also read that almonds are really good for you. So, what I do whenever I feel the need to snack on something I probably shouldn't, is I grab my carton of 1% chocolate milk and a handful of almonds and I feel like I'm eating chocolate-covered almonds. :)

The choc almond idea is fab, best thing I've heard of all week lol. I've just finished run 3 week 1 and after run 1 thought I was about to have a heart attack , but today was miles easier and I recovered easier to. I'm also not having a rest before starting week 2 as due to childcare can only go Monday we'd and Sunday. I've really enjoyed this week even though in a way I was dreading it I expected to fail at the 1st hurdle
. Good luck x

1% chocolate milk is my go-to after any work out, either a run, kickboxing class, or something else. It's tasty, so it feels like I'm cheating, and it gives me the protein that I need after a workout!

Sometimes I throw some in the blender with strawberries and a scoop of protein powder. Delish! :)

Hi I need to lose 42 lbs - now 37.6lbs. :D I have never run before, well apart from probably school sports day but that was a long time ago! I am on week 4 and am so surprised at myself for being able to run for 5 minutes - twice! Its amazing what a little effort and determination can achieve. I cant believe I will be running for 8 minutes next week! The difference in my breathing and leg tone in 4 weeks is huge, in another 4 weeks who knows! Keep it up guys and happy running :)
