Seeking remedy for soreness

Post by Lillie »

Hi all,

I just completed the 2nd run of my first week today and boy, do I
Feel it! My soreness is concentrated on my inner thighs,
Glutes and above the knee. The soreness isn't unbearable, but I did
Find it difficult to run the 2nd time as I was relatively stiff.
I did stretch before and after so I am wondering If it's my technique?
Any ideas on how to quicken recovery from soreness so I am looser for my third run?

Someone told me not to stretch before I run/walk because my muscles aren't warmed up. I just stretch really good after. Other than that, I think bodies just need time to get used to being used in a new way. I don't know if it is accurate or not, but it worked for me! ;)

I ached a lot on my first week- but it got better on the second week.

I spaced my runs out by a day more than the program says in the first week to rest my legs and just went for a walk on the days inbetween to stretch my muscles out a bit. I also only stretch after running, although I do give myself a little shake out during my warm up walk!

All you can really do for muscle soreness is stretch really well after your run, and then make good use of your rest days. Your muscles aren't used to being worked this way, and are going to need time to get over the initial "What are you doing to me?!" stage. After week two, then soreness should be just about gone.
