Here's my story:
Hey people, I'm Monkey and I have yo-yo
dieted since I was old enough to order diet
Pills! :@0 I've tried every diet (each on numerous
occasions!) but have never given up on myself
(must be the Gemini in me) - but I thought I had
control of my weight, went on holiday, had Crimbo
(Christmas!), then a winter Caribbean Cruise
and when I looked at myself in the mirror, I
hated myself - and I thought what I've always
thought "look at you - who will love you if you
don't love yourself?" - something I have asked
myself on numourous occasions! Anyway, a
really good friend introduced me to this App. I
run (jog!) on my treadmill as I want to
track my progress, but mainly because I am
overweight and am not built for running - let
alone ENJOY running - but I'm willing to give it
a go and give it my all! I have tried on numerous
ocassions to get going (regularly!) on my
Treadmill, but my muscles got tired (training
incorrectly!) SO here I sit after Week 1 - Run 2
(and I've NEVER jogged on a Friday night before -
I normally came home and chilled!) feeling
really positive and looking forward to Week 1
Run 3 on Sunday (again - can't remember the
last time I exercised on a Sunday - let alone looked
forward to it!) - and although I am inspired
by everyone's own personal stories, I cannot see
how the hell I'm going to be able to run 8 mins
non stop, let alone 25 mins on week 8 and
30 mins on week 9 - but I'm going to give it my
best shot and would like to thank my very good
friend, Emma Hibbs, for giving me the
"heads up" on this App - I will give it my all!
Crickey - don't I go on! Hope you didn't fall asleep
half way through my little story!
Luv

Hi Monkey!
Nice to meet you. I like you need to lose weight. When I started this program I found the first week really hard going. I have hated running my whole life; when I was at school (a long time ago) I used to do anything to avoid it! But the program is so clever and it just works if you stick to it. it just does! I repeted a week if i felt that I needed to...it's totally up to you how you get through it..... but all of a sudden it's like a little confidence switch turned on and I thought "I can do this" - what's more I really love it. I fell of the running band-waggon for a bit but i found myself a new pair of running shoes and I even bought a pair of running socks whihc cost £10!!!! £10 for a pair of socks?????!!!!!
I really look forward to my runs - i really do....
let us know how you get on

Hi Monkey
Welcome to the forum! And congratulations on taking the first step to a new you.
I think the beauty of this app is that it takes all of us "non-runners" to a place we all thought we'd never be. Heck, when I did Week 1, Run 1, I thought I'd never make it through the 5 minute warm-up, let alone the 1-minute runs! And now, here I am on Week 9 and I've just completed my 2nd run for this week and I'm feeling great. I never would've thought it was possible when I started. But here I am, living proof that it is entirely possible. And this forum is full of many others who have very similar stories. So, keep on... persevere... you can absolutely do it and what an accomplishment it will be!!!

Re: I'm new to this - be gentle
Cheers guys for all your words of encouragement.
I started this last Weds, so which meant that I'd be running on a Weds, Fri and Sun each week, but I thought I would prefer to run on a Mon, Weds and Fri - then I get the weekends off - so I re-started Week 1 again on Monday and BOY was that run tough
It wasn't my breathing that was the problem, it was my calf muscles - they were just soooo tired. Anyway, I ran again last night and it felt much better, as I slowed my jogging down to 8km per hour instead of 8.5km per hour - so hopefully this is the pace for me now and I'm looking forward to tomorrow's run
As I said, I'm new to this and I absolutely HATE running - but am finding this App to be really good (I know I'm only on Week 1 but .....!!) but I do wonder what are the correct speeds for walking and jogging? I suppose everyone is different, but I tend to walk at 6km per hour and jog at 8km per hour - does that sound about right? I might even have to slow down the jogging again when I get to longer runs

I like the fact that I have "running partner" or "coach" in the application.
As for your calf muscles hurting, it sounds like you worked through that.
Good luck with your running! I am enjoying the program and can't wait to graduate next month.

Hi there Monkey
I just read your post, yes I managed to stay awake!
I've got up to week 8 in the app and can't believe I have. I've been a member of a gym for god knows how many years, faffed about on various bits of kit and swam a bit but never actually ran before!
After my first run I thought my face was gonna burst I got that red
but on the treadmil I found my pace and began really loving it!
I fitted my runs into a routine so that I wouldn't be put off or felt it was in the way and after 8 weeks it became part of my normal life!
As my hubby has run half marathons and loads of 10ks, I started getting frustrated that people didn't think it was an option for me to do such things so never even asked... But now don't feel like that's the case! I think somewhere in my future I'll join him on a proper race!!
Ok, so I've had a little setback healthwise but because I know that I've run for 25 mins before that I can again and more and I know that in a few short weeks that you'll feel the same too!!
Good luck Mrs T x x
