Hi! :)

My name's Darcy, I work as a designer for a running company in the UK, which is obviously pretty good motivation to start running! So I have a good lump of knowledge behind me when it comes to running shoes and clothing...

Unfortunately I keep starting the program then my life gets interrupted and find it difficult to get back into :( (I'm one of those people who gets easily frustrated over the fact I cant be good at it straight away despite knowing it doesn't work that way!)

I'm hoping coming here will help keep me in check a little better so I look forward to getting to know you all better and talking to you all! :)

Thanks for reading!

Hello world!
I am Steve and i live in sunny Phoenix Arizona. I have tried running the past couple winters but felt I lacked direction and gave up when I didn't get results as fast as I would have liked. Now that I discovered this app I feel I have the coaching I need to stick to running permanently.
I used to be upset when, after a few weeks of running, I had to occasionally stop while running for a walk break. Now that I follow this program, I no longer feel self-conscious about stopping to walk.
Now that we have sub-hell temperatures here in the desert, I did my first run this morning and feel like I could go back out and run some more.
Thank you for this app and this forum!

Hello all

I am new to running, as I've always cycled or played tennis in the past, but have been attracted to the simplicity and flexibility that running offers in the city. I'm Glasgow based and with so many great parks there's always somewhere new to discover. I completed W1 R1 yesterday, and whilst I admit I had a bit of a scary sugar crash just after it, it went all in all very well and I didn't feel overtaxed. Compare that to my trying to run before in the summer months and wondering why I couldn't run up and down my street without turning beetroot and giving myself a stitch. I had just decided I wasn't built to run. With any luck, this app will be my answer, with a lot of the worries about pace and scheduling removed by the preplanned structure. Just need to get decent headphones! The cheap plastic ones I have keep falling out my ears!

Hi my name is Maddy.
Joined a gym in April and after a week was stopped by the GP and put on an ECG - thats how unfit I was.
Armed with a heart monitor I progressed from walking on the treadmill at various speeds and inclines to running in the last two weeks.
Enjoying the Get Running App as an additional run on free train in the Gym
From starting out really unfit I can see how much I'm improving, I'm now running at the same speed as I was 25 years ago.
Ran week1 day 2 today and kept going, ended up nearly running/walking 4k :D

I'm Tracy; 48 years "young", and I live in Texas! Just completed w1r2 and just want to say I think I can. No. Let me rephrase. I know I can. Fantastic app. Hoping to quit smoking very soon. Keep up the good work to each and every one of us.

Hello Denmark calling ;)
I am Birgit (48 yrs, well - not for long - birthday's coming up this week) - I started last week and is now on week 2 and did run 2 today. It was raining - so now I know what it's like to have a dog and having to go out regardless of the weather ;)

I am pretty impressed by the programme and how easy it is to follow. I am not used to exercise so it is really perfect for a couch potatoe like me.

I am really looking forward to running a 5 km run around xmas time!

Regards
Birgit
ps forgot to mention that I smoke - but guess I'll have to stop soon, otherwise I wont be running anywhere except around the xmas tree...

Hi,
I'm Carol. I live in Vancouver, Canada
I'm a newbie to running. There is a store here called the Running Room that offers learn to run clinics. I started a couple weeks ago. I have no endurance at this point! But I assume that is to be expected. I downloaded the app to help on days I can't make their practice clinics--their training technique is very similar to the app.
Hoping to learn lots from the forum!
Cheers,

Carol

Just wanted to add a quick note about shin splints. Yes they are incredibly painful to run through but the quickest way to fix them is to change to a shoe that works best for you. I've completed several half marathons and even one full marathon and found that every time I had shin splints it was from a poor choice of shoes or increasing my distance too quickly. Now please don't get the impression that I am anywhere near being a great athlete...it took me more than 6 hours to complete that marathon so I definitely walked more than I ran but I learned so much about how my body responds to different stresses from that training. Just a thought but I really hope it helps :)

Hello, everyone! For all intents and purposes, call me Starky. All my friends do (they really do)! I'm a 27 year old stay at home mother to a little boy who is about to turn two. After he was born, I figured if I could do that, I could do anything, and since running had always intimidated me, I went for it! Six weeks after he was born, I hopped on the treadmill for the first time. Since then, I've run on and off, pushing my son in his jogging stroller, averaging about six miles a week. I sprained my ankle quite nicely on a run in July (baby was fine, though, thank goodness!) and it took a month and a half to get back into things again and I've really been slacking. My husband is somewhat a runner, he's in the navy and has to stay fit, and he has been on my back about how I'm not making progress, not pushing myself, you know... And he's right; I haven't, and I am!

So here I am. My goal is to complete a half-marathon, because even my husband hasn't attempted that! Wish me luck!
