Just completed this run today and I set up the Nike + App alongside it as my target is to run 5km in 25 minutes and as this was the first run of that time I thought it would be a good opportunity to see where I stood.
I was a little miffed to see I only managed 4.04km in the 25 mins running which means I'm nearly a whole KM off my target for the end of this app. I know week 7 is all 25 minute runs and I'm still 9 runs from the end but I'm not sure if I'm going too slow for this far into the program.
Does anyone else know there times for 25 mins or are most people working on the time rather than distance? I still can't believe I'm running 25 mins non stop after nearly dying on the 1st week of 8x1minute runs
I'm starting week 9 today, but I've been running for more than 30 minutes for the past week. In my experience, my pace has continued to increase in subsequent runs. I've been building stamina first, then working on pace. It appears to be working.
I agree with YikesMn,
The most important thing at this stage is building the stamina. Then the pace will come with practice. As far as I can see lots of people have reached the end of this programme without making the full 5k in 30 mins. Lots of people have done it in 28 mins too though. Week 6 is probably too early to worry about it. Just run your own pace and you will get there.
When I finished the program, I ran 4,5 km in 40 minutes (30 minutes of running and 10 minutes of walking). I'm now about to finish the 'bridge to 10k' program. I'm able to run for 60 minutes run (with a minute of walking after 30 minutes) and I did 8 km (including the 10 minutes warming up / cooling down). I'm rather short, so my legs are short too, maybe that's why I'm a slow runner. But I don't mind. I'm running, and that's the most important thing.
This Sunday I will participate in a real 'run', which is a 5 mile run. I hope to finish this somewhere between 1h5m and 1h10m. I'll keep you posted.
I did my first 5k at week 8 but did it in 42 minutes. My aim now is to get it to 30 minutes. My husband does his in 22 minutes but he runs regular 5 and 10 mile runs through the week, so it depends how fit you are. I know the programme is based on couch to 5k but I think the emphasis is based on reaching a 30 minute run without stopping over the distance covered. Good luck with it. Parkrun.com is a good 5k to join for free. It's very motivating running with other runners of all abilities and ages. I am always dead chuffed to find I am not the last over the finish line when I do mine
My first 5K was 44:50 minutes. However slow I may be, my pace has increased from 10:55 min/K to 8:54 min/K. I expect it will keep getting faster as my stamina increases.
Really, I just can't believe that I can run for over 40 min.
I am doing week 9 run 1 tonight. I am a slow runner but I am using this program for stamina. I would probably be doing a 40 min 5k right now but that's alright. After this week, I am going to work on speed and distance. I think I can get down to 30 min 5k if I don't give up! Thinking about running the Turkey Trot on 11/24.
