Smoking

Post by tlt123 »

Just curious if anyone has started this running thing and kept smoking. I completed week 1 day 1 and I smoke. Really want to quit but it is so hard. Thanks ahead of time for the feedback.

I do smoke about a pack a day. I just finished wk7 r1 today and am breezing thru the program. I will quit soon though because it's a disgusting habit and I know how much better my running will be when I do. I started smoking when I was about 12 and quit for a solid 2 years about 5 years ago, but unfortunately picked the habit back up. I am now 40. When I quit the first time I was smoking 3 packs a day. Awful, awful habit, but yes the program can be done while smoking. I believe as we progress we will naturally want to smoke less and quit. Good luck with the program!

I'm a smoker 2. Just about to do w5r3 tomorrow. So far it's been possible but I do think that it makes it much harder. If I'm having more problems with lungs than legs that says something right?

I have found myself trying to smoke less so that the runs are easier. Down to about 15 a day now.

I'm also a smoker and am on W5R3. I'm hoping that running will continue to help me at least cut back. I find that I smoke less on days that I have a run planned. Ironically, I tend to really want a cig about an hour after I've finished a run. Argh!

Use a NRT spray such as Nicorette Quick Mist instead of a cigarette 1h after your run? I've heard of others use it to help them quit like that.

Quick Mist looks like a great option, but it looks as though it's not available in the US yet. However, that was good advice, and I'm going to pop out tomorrow and get a packet of NRT lozenges. Thanks

Tlt123- Just finished the program on Tues. I may replay week 9 on my iPhone just because I'll miss coach Claire :) While I'm still smoking some, I somehow manage to smoke smoke less on run days. (maybe 3-4 cigs). One would think that I'd be able to quit at that rate, but I just haven't been able to give up completely.
