Inspired by Charlie Brooker!

Post by Madline »

Well I have just completed week one and have a wonderful smug feeling. I'm wondering if anyone else read Mr Brookers wonderful article in the paper last Monday. So disdainful about running yet also ashamedly admitting to being hooked. He mentioned an app that got him started which when I looked in the app store looked remarkably like this one. So he is to blame. If he can do it so can I. But have to admit I have to go under cover of darkness... Hopefully that will change when I lose the fear of bumping in to someone I know. Also this is the first time I've ever written on a forum, looking at other posts I thought perhaps it might help me stick with it.

LOL!

Me too!

I read his article and thought - if it worked for him then why not me? I've just finished week one now and feel very pleased with myself. I feel knackered but very pleased

Good luck,

Me too. :) Well, Charlie, and my sister, who is on week 9 and looks fantastic. I thought if Charlie can do it, surely I can at least give it a try! :D He confirmed on Twitter that the app he mentioned in his column was this one.

I too was inspired by Charlie Brooker, after reading his article and seeing his tweet.
I love, love, love the app, but still think it would be better if a future update allowed the option of hearing Mr Brookers cantankerous voice berating us with encouragement.

So last night I ran the second run of week 2. Well, it looks good saying running but actually it's mostly walking with a kind of launching off and lurching for 2 minutes whilst gasping for breath until instructed to stop. Next morning, I stagger around on stiff legs assuring the household that I will make it down the stairs, eventually. They find it hilarious and are really rather cynical about me progressing much further!
Just wondering how you others are faring? Do you find yourselves out there wondering what on earth your doing? But kind of curiously enjoying it at the same time?
Doomed.

Lol. I'm in exactly the same boat.

People read my Facebook and say "so you've started jogging" and I say "erm sort of"!

Stupid cold is stopping me from going out this week.....

Man, I'm so chuffed. Just finished week 3 run 3. The last run a couple of days ago hadn't gone so well and this evening I was feeling really tired so I was very surprised to find myself enjoying running.
I do have a bit of a confession. I have been running barefoot. Well almost. That first week I put on my trainers but I got a numb foot halfway through. I tried my daughters trainers next, the same thing but with the other foot. I decided to ditch the shoes and run barefoot. My soles are hardening up but after a few sessions I started looking at barefoot running shoes. I tried on some vibrams and some Nike ones but neither felt barefoot enough and both were way too expensive. Besides I wanted something easy to slip off and fold to carry. I ended up getting some dance training slippers for £5 with a leather sole and they seem pretty good.
It's all a bit of an experiment but I feel it's going ok. I'm looking forward to the longer runs now it seems I have a rhythm developing. Probably complete madness but hey!

I just read the Charlie Brooker piece. I laughed out loud, then sent it to a couple of friends who have wondered what terrible running demon has possessed me.
