Week 5 run 3 - solid 20 mins (eek!)
Re: Week 5 run 3 - solid 20 mins (eek!)
Yeah me too, but I might give it a shot as you never know. If info run I will more that counteract it with a mince pie

Re: Week 5 run 3 - solid 20 mins (eek!)
I did the 20 minute run today. I was OK for the first 15 minutes - although I was running so slowly I might as well have been walking. However, in the last 5 minutes my legs were hurting so badly I had to not only slow down to a walk but stop and stretch a bit.
So should I repeat this week? Or move on and hope that things start to get better? I've been OK with the previous runs - my legs are often sore after the running but I'm not really out of breath that much. And when I do treadmill runs my heart rate is well within my optimum zone and my recovery during the walks is really good - it's just my legs!

I dunno really, I guess that's your call. Do you think you completed the run is that you are proud of yourself?
I think for me I would repeat that run until I ran the whole thing and maybe the whole week if I thought I'd be unable to do it.

First day back on the treadmill since i did my 20 minute run which was i think 11 days ago now. My plan was that a break from running would be good for my as it might help my legs recover. Wrong! I felt like i was running in treacle, had to slow right down to be able to keep going and my leg muscles are aching ad bad as they were after those first few runs.
There is no way i could have done a long run, no way at all, and if it wasnt for the fact that this run is 3 short runs id have failed it.
I feel really annoyed at myself now for not running over Xmas because i was doing so well but today i just feel like i had taken a huge step backwards in my fitness because after passing that 20 min barrier these 3 short runs should have been easy peasy but they weren't
I suppose i shall look on the bright side in that i still ran what i was meant to run without stopping and it was still 18 mins worth of running but it feels a hollow achievement and i dont have that loverly buzz i normally do afterwards.
Im gonna see how the next run goes (2 x 10mins) and if i struggle with that im going to repeat the week.

Big step back for me too. I ran on boxing day; there were far too many people out in the park, of course! I am really self conscious running and I run just that bit faster when there's people around, and I'm always trying to decide whether to start the walking section just before I get to people or wait until I've passed them. So this definately seems to make me more prone to aching limbs. Another run about 4 days later and I was over ambitious, expecting carry on with the program where I left off. I think I pushed myself too hard because since then my attempts have failed. So disappointing, and it's really not the same without the buzz of achievement. I felt like I was doing so well! So as not to give up I have decided to go back a couple of weeks and build up from there. I know I can do it. I just have to listen to my body and take a bit more time. But Grrr!
Re: Week 5 run 3 - solid 20 mins (eek!)
I'm doing this run tomorrow morning and I am really looking forward to it but scared witless at the same time! I just cant see how I am going to go from barely completing two 8 min runs to completing a 20 min run. I guess we will have to wait and see!

Did W6R2 today (2 x 10mins), i say "did" but i stopped 3 mins from the end so only 17 mins of the supposed 20.
I had to delay it by a day because my thigh muscles were aching like mad haha. I honestly never thought that taking xmas off running would cause such a huge setback, my legs ached like they did in the first few weeks where i was hobbling like an old man up and down the stairs!!
Even though i didnt properly finish my runs its was nothing like as bad as my last run an i felt more like my usual self just lacked a bit of stamina.
The last run of week 6 is a 25 min solid run and im not ready for that so im gonna take it on the chin and repeat the week 6 again. Going to try to fit a cheeky run in tomorrow then repeat the 2 x 10 mins on monday, cross trainer tues and the 25 min run wednesday. I think its just a bit of cardio i need to get my stamina up.
I hate repeating weeks but if theres one thing i have learnt its to listen to your body!!

Wow. I'm still not quite sure how but i did. And I couldn't be prouder of myself. The last few mins were actually ok. The worst bit was just after 10 mins when I realised I had just run two minutes more than I had for about 15 years and even so I was only half way!
By 'new' concern now is boredom tho. I run on a treadmill and am worried I will lose concentration on these longer runs. Still. It's a problem I never ever expected I would have!
