Help!!!!!!! Should I run?!

Post by Stephlperry76 »

Hi everyone!
I need advice. I have W6R2 scheduled tomorrow and Sunday I am scheduled for my first 25 minute run. However I have entered a 5k on Saturday!!! Should I do the Friday and Sunday run? Has anyone been in this situation? What should I do?

Hi!

It depends a lot about how you're feeling about your running (and how fast you're running at the moment, which would tell us what the difference between 5K and 25 minutes is for you!)

Personally, I'd not run on Friday, giving yourself a rest day before Saturday's 5K. Then do the 5K slowly and steadily, walking if you need to every now and again. Then give yourself another rest day (and perhaps a victory treat of some kind!) before you carry on with the programme.

One warning: it's easy to get "caught up" in the atmosphere of organised runs, and hare off too fast at the start. If you can, try to pace yourself at the beginning, maybe trying to run a bit slower than you've been running in training, and saving your energy for later. Then, just make sure you pay attention to your body and how you're feeling, run if it feels right, and walk if/when you need to.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Thanks Matt! I took your advice and skipped today's run. I am going to do my 2 x10 runs during the 5k. This way I get a 5 minute warm up before my run. Having this app running will keep me on the normal pace I run! Will let you know how I did! I'm excited!
