Injury help needed

Post by Roncole50 »

I've been following the programme successfully up to week 7 then after 10 mins of run 2 that week I pulled a muscle (I think) in the back of my leg between calf and ankle. Had to stop, difficulty walking never mind running for the next couple of days. Gradually got better and after 12 days I was ready to try again. Started very gingerly and with an open mind about whether to do the full 25 mins run or go back to something less but found I could keep going and finished fine with no ill effects.

Just been for the next run of that week, no problem getting round but towards the end the muscle stiffened up again and it's uncomfortable now. Can anyone suggest how I should go on from here? Do I simply try again according to the schedule and see what happens or should I go back now to something more gentle?

Incidentally, I've been trying to lose weight along with the increased exercise and as of this morning, have dropped almost 2 stones in about 3 and a half months. I've no doubt that this programme is a major contributor to that.

I pulled a muscle during a run once, and it ached FOREVER. My doctor advised me to stretch it as much as possible and take it easy. Ease back into running, maybe do intervals again for a little while if you prefer, or just cut your running time in half for now. You'll know when it's time to start stepping it up again, the pain will be gone.

Thanks, that'was helpful. Set out on week 8 run 1 this morning going very gently and intending to stop at the first hint of discomfort. However I got round the whole thing without any problem and no ill effects so far. The 12 day lay off looks like it has done the trick, fingers crossed. Thanks again.
