Noob runner looking for shoes

Post by crawford501 »

Just started the couch to 5k today trying to get ready for a 5k in Oct, Zombie Survival Dash! Anyways I have wide flat feet with zero arch and I'm looking to get some good running shoes. I've heard good things about NB's Minimus and that's really the only one I'm currently considering. Anybody have any other shoes I should check out or pros & cons regarding Minimus. Thanks

If your serious about this, you ought to go to a specialist running shop. They ought to be able to check your feet, gait, running style, etc. Usually with computer analysis, then come up with the shoes that are right for you. ( says the guy who grabbed the cheapest pair of Nikes in the discount sport shop, however, when the program ends and I am a 'proper runner', I will follow my own advice.

Please go to a running store and get properly fitted! I never did, and ended up with bilateral plantar fasciitis. Go to a running store, spend the money for shoes. Otherwise, you could end up hurt.

Definitely go get fitted for shoes. I wore NB Minimus for my first couple of runs, because I wear them at Crossfit. I was rewarded with knee soreness. Got fitted at a running store and left with NB 860v2. Much more cushioning and support, and what a huge difference when running! I know a lot of people are fans of barefoot running but I think the more supportive shoe is right for me right now. I still wear my Minimus for Crossfit.

I have similar feet, My foot width is 2E and not much of an arch. Basically flat footed. I bought these Brooks because the fit was fantastic. Getting fitted is recommended, its not the cheapest way to buy shoes but its your feet, its worth it.
