Announcement: Get Running for Android

Post by matt »

Hi all,

Get Running is now also available for Android, from the Google Play Store.

I figured I'd mention it here, as I know there are a couple of our existing users who've switched to Android but have to go running with their old iPhones :D

Happy running!

Thanks Matt - just downloaded and it seems to work nicely on my HTC Desire :)

If I set my music app to play and then go into Get Running is that the best way to get music to play during a run? Only downside to that is it means the music is playing loud over the instructions from the nice lady, so I wondered if there's a better way.

Thanks for bringing this to android :)

Hi!

Kicking off the music app and then starting Get Running is the best way, yes. The music *should* fade down nicely while Get Running talks -- if that's not happening for you, I'll have to do a bit of testing. I know it works okay on an HTC Wildfire, but I've not got a Desire to try with...

Thanks,

Matt

Ahh thats the one issue with Android I guess - so many devices, you can't test every single one! I started up my music player first then started Get Running and it doesn't seem to fade the music down at all. That said I can still hear the instructions, so its not a major issue, and certainly won't get in the way of me using the app. In fact I can just fade the music down manually when required. Everything else is working beautifully.

Thanks again for bringing it to Android :)

Just for your info:
My phone hasn't been rooted or anything, its sim free running normal HTC firmware:
Android Version 2.2.2
Baseband Version 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel Version 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c
htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
Build Number 2.29.405.14

Just downloaded the app to my samsung S5830 ace, just thought youd like to know, the music stops during audio prompts not fading nicely as on my iphone, as i recall, there was a setting for this on iphone, I cant find it here though. Hope this helps (and is solvable) still great app though. Thanks again for bringing it to Android.

Yup, any information is useful. One challenge with Android is the sheer number of devices, and they're all a bit different -- I've tested Get Running on five different Android phones/music players, all on different versions of Android, and the music fading works pretty well on all of them, but they're all a bit different. Some fade down really nicely, some abruptly stop, some fade back in pleasantly, some have very different volume differences between the talking and the music...

Hopefully we'll sell enough copies of Get Running for Android that I can afford to buy a couple more phones to test with!

So, on your Samsung, can you describe in a little more detail what happens? I might be able to track down the problem. (I tested Get Running on a Samsung Galaxy Wi-Fi, and it works pretty nicely on that...)

Thanks,

Matt

PS: If anyone has any issues with Get Running for Android, you can post them here, or drop me a line at play@getrunningapp.com, or matt@mattgibsoncreative.co.uk. Thanks!

I have sent you an email with the detail. Please don't think I'm complaining, I love this app and see this as (hopefully) useful feedback.
