In love with running again
Re: In love with running again
Hurray, well done! I've found the fallen leaves to be a bit treacherous too... now quite looking forward to winter when there's just a nice crunchy frost to run over.
Re: In love with running again
I'm just starting out. Never run a day in my life but a good friend of mine said that running literally saved his life and I'm willing to try anything at this point. I want to start as soon as I can, but I'm concerned about the weather. I've read everyone's posts for cold weather but I'll be facing rain. What do you wear? Is it slippery? Does anyone have tips to share? I haven't started the program yet....
Re: In love with running again
Hi slizzard - start the programme as soon as you can. You don't mention whether you want to do it for fitness reasons or for 'feeling more positive' reasons but whichever it is I really believe running can help in both areas. I am definitely fitter but I also get a really good feeling about what I achieve each week. The targets give you are real focus and then, when you achieve them, it feels great! As for running in the rain, you don't mention the temperature where you are. I think it makes a difference. For instance, I prefer to run in just a T Shirt and jogging bottoms even when it is raining. If I wore a water proof or similar I would overheat, so I prefer to get wet and then just have a hot shower when I get back! However, if you live somewhere really really cold, that may not be advisable!! It was 8 degrees when I went out this morning but you very quickly warm up. Re the the 'slippery' bit - I am not sure what surface you run on but I run across country (so I can't comment on road running for example) and the mud is getting pretty hazardous! I am seriously considering investing in some cross country spikes!
The main tips I would say are having a decent fitting pair of running shoes is REALLY important and run with an ipod/music - it really helps! I couldn't run without it!
Anyway - DON'T be concerned about the weather. If anything, it is easier in the cold I reckon! Just go for it and start as soon as possible! Good luck and let us know how you get on!!

Re: In love with running again
Hi Slizzard glad to hear your going to start running! My advice is take it easy and stick to the program and before you know it you'll be flying along. The weather can be a bit of a hurdle but only if you let it! I love running in the rain!
Don't wrap up to warm or you'll overheat, sweat too much and run out of steam quickly. A hat and gloves will make you feel alot warmer in the cold as for the rest of you you'll find that once your running your body will take over and keep you warm.
Ran w8 r1 tonight and loved it my best run of the app so far sprinted the last 5 mins really enjoyed it!

Re: In love with running again
Well nearly done now just one more run to go and thats it.
W9 has not gone to plan though! I did the first run no problem and covered 3.5 miles in the 30 mins so was really pleased but then got struck down with a stomach bug the next morming so that meant I had to rest an extra day. However ran r2 tonight as I felt alot better and now back on track.
I've really loved this app and the forum as it's really helped me make changes to my life as I've lost weight, become much fitter and I've had to buy new pants as the old ones are now too big!
Best of all though is the little escape from the day to day hassles as I find running really helps me to unwind.
Anyway hope everyone who reads this keeps it up and hits their goals and thank you for all the support over the past 9 weeks.
