Question regarding breathing while you run?
Question regarding breathing while you run?
I have been told I should be able have a conversation while I run, but I have also been told to try and breathe through my nose and mouth and take some deep breathes. But when I do thatI am not really able to carry on a conversation without taking some deep breathes. So is it better to slow down and have a pace that allows me to run and talk, or take the deep breathes so I increase my use of oxygen better? So confused?? Thanks for any responses.
Re: Question regarding breathing while you run?
What works for one person may not work for another. Having said that, most people DO breathe through their mouths the whole time (I do!) but the trick is to not be gasping through a wide open maw. Steady in, steady out. Most runners will inhale/exhale to a steady rhythm of 2 in/2 out, but some 4 in/4 out better. Some people swear by asymmetrical breathing (3 in/2 out). Just find what feels natural to you, so that you're not thinking about it the whole time to the exclusion of your form and pace.
edit: I forgot to add that the asymmetrical breathing thing is supposed to help with side-stitches, but I've found just keeping my breaths deep and regular is enough for me. As I said before, everyone is different.

Thanks Stark, I like the idea of not being obsessed with it. Just find what feels right and go for itt
