A confession!

Post by anglichanka »

Hello all. I've dropped in here before but never posted. First of all thanks Benjohn for a wonderful miraculous app. I have never been a runner and always found my brain more powerful - at telling me to stop - than my legs. But I started Get Running, did 3 weeks, then went off on a container ship for 5 weeks where there was little else to do but use the gym. I got to week 8 and was loving it, then came back to land and lost it! I'm so annoyed with myself, but I seem to have lost my stamina. Also am having an op this weekend so will lose a few weeks to recuperation, but I would like to declare here in public that I am going to start again, probably from week 5, and next time I'm going to complete it. Now it's here in black and white, I'll have to.

It took a while but I am back running and loving it. I've finally figured out how the time of day and food intake affects my energy levels, which really helps (morning with no food bad; afternoon about 5pm good). I'm still devoted to a treadmill, which I know many people find weird, but it's harder to jump off a treadmill than stop in the street, and every incentive/constraint helps. I am still disappointed that I finished the programme back in July and have had to re-start in week 3, but never mind. I am on Week 4 and can't wait for Run 3 tomorrow, and that - the desire to run - is the biggest joy of this programme. I'm about to go on a course of strong medication with side effects but I am determined to run through it. Regards and good luck to all.

Despite illness, surgery and a whole host of other distractions, I did my last run last night. I finished! I am now going to go and throw flowers at myself, as we say in Yorkshire. I am deeply, deeply grateful to getrunning for turning me from a running-hater into a running-lover and will promote the app at every opportunity. I'm going to cross-post this in the graduate forum, just because I can!

:-) Superb! Well done on getting yourself back to it and finishing that program! That's some commitment you've got there, so have some more flowers from me.

Remember that if you get out on the road, you might find outdoor running is a little more demanding, so go easy on yourself as you do that and remember – you've proven to yourself that you can do things you commit to, so you won't have a problem if you keep at it!

Happy running,
Benjohn

Thanks, Benjohn. I haven't dared outdoor running yet, but that's in my plan too, along with joining the local harriers. I really do profoundly appreciate your work and support.
