New to Running

Post by asauve »

Hello,

I was a hater of running. I never wanted to run in school and did not understand why people enjoyed running so much. But...I've decided to give it a go. I've been working out at a gym since September and am not seeing the progress I'd like in my weight loss and getting healthy journey. I am hoping that running will help to kick start my weight loss and generally make me feel healthier.

I am a mom of a busy 3 year old girl so finding time to work out is hard. I've decided to run when she goes to bed as it's still light out and its much cooler. We're having a very hot summer, and I don't take to the heat well. I am on week one and will be doing run 3 tonight. The first night was hard, but I felt so great when I got home. I was so hyper for having been able to complete the first run. I did end up getting shin splints so I went out on the weekend and got fitted for proper running shoes from a running store. I used them on my 2nd run, but I still felt a lot of pain in my shins. I googled exercises for shin splints and did a few as well as iced my shins and they feel a lot better today. So we'll see how run 3 goes.

I'm so excited to think that I am actually running with this program. I LOVE the app and it's definitely keeping me motivated. This forum is great as well as I love reading the good, the bad and the ugly. It's nice to know that people are helping each other with their struggles. I was happy to read that people are repeating weeks to build up their endurance and are not discouraged from doing so. That makes the final goal less daunting. I hope I can make it to week 8!

I never thought I'd be a runner....but I do hope I will be by week 8!

Congratulations on taking the step for yourself - and for your daughter. It's hard to take the time - and for many years and with 4 kids - I didn't. But, I'm seeing the benefits as I finish up week 9 in both my own health, attitude - and my kids.

You've taken the hardest step - starting. Cheering you on as you make this running experience totally YOURS!
