5K 2 days in a row!

Post by DebL66 »

Yesterday I ran 5K for the first time. Yay! Today should have been a rest day for me, but it was beautiful out and I felt like running so I ran 5K again. At 32 min and some change I am not setting any speed records but I am so excited that I can cover the distance! My race isn't until Sept 9 so I have a few weeks to see if I can up my pace a bit, but now at least I know I can do it.

8 weeks ago I couldn't run down the block!

That's great, well done! I finished the program last week, but I don't think I'm up to a 5k pace just yet, I intend to run the route of the local 5k race later today so I'll see how that goes, although in pretty slow at the moment so I'm not expecting much.

Well done to you. I've just done week 9 run 1 and managed 2.75 miles so I need to increase my pace but I'm hoping that will come over the next few weeks. Think I'll stick to 30 mins for a while then see if I can add another min or two.
Well done for doing the 5k by the time your race is here you should be cruising it.

Simon, you will get there. Once you know you can run for 30 min you can gradually pick up the pace and you will be there before you know it.

Plummy, I was averaging around 2.8 in a 30 min run. I just decided to push myself to see if I could do the full 5K because it didn't seem like too big of a leap...until I had to run it ha ha. :-) I have a mental thing going though where I will stop when the program tells me to stop no matter how I feel or will push even when tired if I hear "you have two more minutes". So instead of running for time, I programmed a 5K run on Nike+ on my iPod and sure enough, I ran it. I might have been mumbling under my breath the last 400 meters but I did it. It is positively mental for me.

And thanks to both of you for the encouragement. I really am excited to do my run in September.
