Treadmill Tips?

Due to the dark nights and poor weather, I'm struggling to get in three runs a week. I hate treadmills but now, reluctantly, I think I'll have to start using a the treadmill at the gym to keep my level of fitness up (I completed Get Running back in August). Has anyone got any tips? Main problems are I get bored and give up or overheat wildly and, again, give up. I tried the treadmill last week and used Get Running (wk 5 run 1) to try and break it down into shorter segments. I also put a towel over the read-out on the treadmill so I wasn't focussed on time, distance, calories, etc. It worked ok - but I'm hoping someone out there has got a magic tip to help get me up to running for 30 minutes continuously.
