Back again like a bad penny! ;)

Post by Dawn »

Hello All,

I used to be around a long time ago in the earlier days of the forum, I got to about week 7 then I got ill and then summer hit and i just couldn't seem to pick up again. Part of the problem i think was bad (new) running shoes too- i bought a cheapo pair to get started - loved running so invested in a more expensive pair and a year later I still hadn't managed to run them in!!!! But I have my dream pair now :)

Anyway- I started again late May and have been skipping through the program again, i found i didn't need to start again from scratch. Anyway, i have kept quiet till now, not wanting to say I was doing it again if i gave up at the first hurdle...but i haven't. Loving it again.

BUT>>>>Attempted WK6 run 3 today...but blimey...it was horrible ....and i needed to vent! lol everything that could go wrong did! I forgot my water and even at 9am it was scorching! I don't like running in nice weather anyway (I know - i must be mad - but i love the rain and the mud) so it was a mare. I don't have summer running clothes, so my combat shorts kept falling down, my iphone kept falling out of my pockets and my ear phones had a mind of their own....so after 20 mins constant running i gave up and walked. Felt a bit glum - but it was really hot!

So - I will do it again on Wed or Thurs (not sure i will have time Wed.)

It's nice to see everything is still going, I love that the app now supports Runkeeper (i know it has for some time, just not been here to say it :) ) I love this app still....it is just brilliant! :)

Hope you are all doing well :)

Hi Dawn,

Glad to see you are back, nice one!

Heat can make running hard, I agree with you. It helps if you can shed as much heavy clothing as possible so the air you are moving through can get to your skin to cool you off.

One thing I've noticed is on a really hot day, if there is a breeze, I'm fine running in to the wind because I keep cool. If I'm running the other way though, the air around me is effectively completely still (because I'm running at the same speed as the breeze), so the sweat on me does about nothing at all to cool me off and I start getting hot really quickly.

Hello :)

Been out today and bought new shorts, and iphone armband so all set again! :) I am trying to keep postitive about the warm weather because last year I didn't even try when it was hot - just got it into my head that I didn't wanrt to run in the heat! Really need new headphones, mine are the big "cans" which are fine under a hat! lol So far it feels like i am in a different mindset this time round...and i really do love running! Isn't motivation a funny thing>? You would think if you enjoy something it would just be easy to get out there and do it...but i seriously have to talk myself into it still sometimes, I LOVE it when i get out there.

Anyway - Nice to be back and see how you are all getting on :)
