Hello and thank you :)

Post by LittleT »

Hi everyone,

Hope I can join you here :) I've been a lurker for a long time, reading all the topics and encouragement words have helped me so much!! I've decided to create a post because I've tried running before didn't finish the program (can't even remember why), but I remember it was right at the stage I'm at the moment and I don't want the same thing to happen again! I want to feel accountable for this and thought starting a diary here would help me...

Sooo a little bit about me - had a baby about 6 months ago, was fairly fit but never been able to run before. I wake up early to run so my husband can look after little T before going to work! Still need to lose some baby weight (About a stone) but hoping this will come naturally when I'm able to run for 30 minutes!

Going for W5 run 3 (yes the dreaded 20 minute run) tomorrow morning - wish me luck!!

Hey :)

W5! You're doing so well! Way ahead of me (W1R3) so I can't offer reassurance lol but you're absolutely smashing this and you just had a baby too :)

Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Good luck. Even though you probably already finished the run :) So how did it go? I am at W4R1 and I think it is going ok for me (heart still beating equals success in my world!)
Hope that you hang in there. I am impressed with your energylevel when you have just had a baby :)

Thanks LinP and Trine for your messages, and sorry for the late reply. I did read them when I was feeding my baby but couldn't type with one hand ;)

Well, the 20 minute run didn't go so well, I managed 17 minutes but I think it was totally a mental thing... I had a cold that week and didn't go for a run for almost a week. When I was running I kept thinking that I wasn't totally prepared, that I had to pee (sorry TMI) and I had a runny nose due to the cold... My legs were tired but I think I could have gone for another 3 minutes, was really annoyed with myself!

Anyway, I've decided to continue to move forward with the plan as the next 2 runs were intervals again. I've finished w6 run 2 this morning and have to say it was fairly easy, even ran faster for the last 10 minutes!

I'm running on Sunday next, supposed to be 25 minutes BUT I think I will modify the plan slightly and do 20 this time, then 22minutes next and only then move to 25.... or see how I'm feeling on the day :)

Thanks again for your replies, really made me keep going!!! And good luck with your next ones!

Just an update on today's run... it was w6r3, and as explained in my previous post, I've decided to do 20 mins instead of 25 since I only ran 17 minutes last week. And I did it! I can't believe it! Have to say, I was tired but not obsessively looking at the time... I was actually surprised with that but din't want to go overboard and cause an injury.

On Wednesday I'll try to do 25 mins but will be happy with 22. My plan is to do 3 runs at 25 mins before moving to 28 so I can go back to the plan. A minor hiccup I'd say ;) Very happy!

Yes!! I love how you took your hiccup (who doesn't have those!) in your stride, modified the plan sensibly as still smashed it :) I think that's Brilliant.

You're nearly there!

I am impressed :) I almost threw up on my W4R1 and only completed it because my husband sat next to me (I'm using my treadmill) and I didn't want to give up. Must admit that I very much doubt that I will be able to run 20 minutes next week :o

Well well unfortunately this morning didn't go to plan... I only managed 18 minutes. Silly me, I've started a new daily workout DVD (30 day shred, great reviews by the way) and this morning my legs were so tired I just could not finish. On top of that, I've been sleeping about 5 hours every night because of the baby and I think it is taking its toll (excuses, excuses I know  ). But I am not giving up.... At least not just yet ha ha. I've decided to do this dvd after the runs, every other day, so I have enough time to recover. Let's see how it goes!

Trine, I am sure that by end of week 4 you will feel way more at ease with the longer runs, it's actually a very nice surprise! Just don't go doing silly things like I do, trying to lose all baby weight in 1 month :(

Good luck!!

Right! Here's a telling off from a fellow mummy. You can't do a DVD thing like the 30day shred (my 15 year old daughter has it and says its an absolute killer) as well as a programme like this and care for a baby and a body which is still recovering from a pregnancy and birth (not to mention breast feeding if that applies).

I have 6 children aged 18 down to 3 and I gained a lot if weight each time but was also on a mission to lose it afterwards. I always did. Every ounce. I allowed myself about a year and that allowed for boob feeding and then the diet (never have done exercise Til now).

Maybe it would be better to do this programme. Smash it as I know you will and then let the running success be your way back to fitness and your new strong slimmer body.

For most of us these dvd's are a flash in the pan but the running habit could last for years and slowly but surely get you where you want to be.

I don't mean to lecture. I just read your post and worried that you might be jeopardising what you want to do here with running because you're in a hurry.

If you stick with one thing, you'll succeed and feel so proud and rightly so

Ha ha thanks so much Lin, you are so right!

Unfortunately I couldn't breastfeed after 3 months or so... I do want to finish this programme and as you said hopefully it will be a change for life! The reason why I started this DVD workout is that I used to be really strong in other areas (back, arms) and I feel that the running alone is not helping with these muscles, plus my tummy needs a lot of toning as you can imagine! I have started feeling my back and knees when I run so I just wanted to protect those areas as well.

I did the workout today after my run and yes, it is a killer but I managed to complete it ok. So I'll see how it goes, maybe I'll do it every other day, maybe 3 or even 2x a week.

Thank you so much for the telling off, I know I needed it! I was gutted I couldn't complete my run this morning. I won't give up though, hopefully next time I'll be better - I'll make sure to allow plenty of recovery time!
